In February 2012 I was very lucky to be invited to Hawaii to shoot Dave & Claudette’s wedding at the Mauna Kea resort on the big Island. The date of the wedding was February 29th.
Yep, a leap year!! Does this mean their anniversary only comes around once every 4 years??
The big island of Hawaii is an amazing location with some of the world’s most active volcanoes as a back drop. Huge lava fields that reach the ocean create an almost lunar landscape of black rock with tropical oases of palm trees dotted here and there. It’s in one of these oases that the Mauna Kea resort is nestled.
Their wedding was a meeting of families and close friends from two countries. Claudette is from the US, Dave is an Aussie and Hawaii is as close as you can get to both countries with your feet still dry.
Steven Bradbury was the best man, you may remember him from the winter Olympics in 2002 as the winner of the first ever Australian gold medal for winter games. He won after all of the other skaters fell over, have a look here to see the video of his win:) It was an amazing win and unlikely to see anything like it again!
This wedding wasn’t just amazing because of the location, it was amazing because of the people there and you can see by the images we captured how much fun and emotion I witnessed while looking through my camera. I feel incredibly privileged to have been there to photograph their wedding and meet all of their guests. Thanks so much to Dave & Claudette and all of their guest for making this such a great experience.
I hope you enjoy the images and I would love to hear what you think.
